ProFactional laser resurfacing is one of the most advanced resurfacing treatments available on the market. The focused laser energy is used to remove the top layers of the skin. The primary objective of laser skin resurfacing is to make the skin smoother, tighter, and more even in tone, texture, and color. It is a form of fractionated ablative laser resurfacing and is usually used to treat:

• Fine lines on the skin
• Skin that looks discolored or uneven
• Skin that has poor laxity

During the treatment, your doctor will set aside certain columns of your skin by marking its depth and concentration. With the use of a laser, these columns are vaporized. When the laser targets specific areas of the skin, it activates the skin’s ability to heal and as a result produces healthier skin cells.

If your doctor targets the skin’s entire surface, it might result in pigment loss, scars, or infection. It is better to receive the treatment in controlled sessions. Immediately after the treatment, you might experience a sensation of heat, but this is usually very brief and will subside quickly.

To begin the procedure, your doctor will mark specific areas that need to be treated. She will apply an anesthetic cream to the designated area to make you feel more comfortable and ease any discomfort that may occur. Here the settings are kept shallow to allow a deeper penetration as compared to surface anesthesia.

Laser skin resurfacing may also be combined with other anti-aging treatments for improved benefits. The treatment is not limited to just one session and may span out over multiple sittings. The number of sessions and the gap between each are decided based on your needs and goals.

The laser treatment may take about 30 mins to complete and the healing process is quite fast. Depending on the depth of the peel, you can expect a full recovery within a span of 3 to 10 days. As an outpatient procedure, you will have the liberty to go back to your normal lifestyle after the treatment is completed.

After the procedure is completed, your skin will be more sensitive to UV rays and will need to be protected. Your doctor will apply a thick layer of moisturizer over the treated skin to keep it protected from outside elements. You must take extra care in avoiding the sun until the healing process is complete to experience the best results.

After undergoing the treatment, your skin will appear finer, smoother, and tighter. Over the following weeks, the look of your skin will continue to improve. You will look much vibrant, youthful, and more beautiful.
